UER: Minister prioritizes peace, education, agriculture and others in region’s dev’t

Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has issued a passionate call to heads of security services in the region to adopt a tactical and trust-inspiring approach in managing security-related issues. He has promised to do what he can for peace to return to Bawku before he leaves office. The Minister was speaking at the maiden meeting of the Regional Coordinating Council in Bolgatanga.

“Chieftaincy conflicts and cross-border tensions are threats that undermine the development of this region. I will collaborate with security agencies, traditional leaders, and civil society to resolve conflicts, particularly the protracted Bawku crisis. Let us support the Otumfuo-led mediation efforts in ensuring peace in Bawku and the region,” Mr. Akamugri announced.

The minister also advised appointees to avoid conflicts of interest stressing the need for ethical governance, reminding them to adhere to the government’s Code of Conduct, promoting transparency and integrity. He emphasized peace, accountability, education, agriculture, and health as key priorities.

“All appointees should be reminded that the government’s Code of Conduct applies to you all. So you should be work to promote transparency and integrity in the NDC government. Additionally, government has allocated GH¢100 million to pay allowances to Assembly Members to enhance oversight of government projects. So it’s our responsibility to ensure success of these programmes.” He noted.

This is the first meeting of the Regional Coordinating, a constitutional requirement that looked at reviewing progress, aligning with the collective vision, and charting strategic pathways for advancing the development of the region. It brought together District Coordinating Directors, District Chief Executives, Presiding Members and Representatives of the house of Chiefs.
