The Director of Communications at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Ama Mawusi Mawuenyefia, says investigations are still underway into the accident involving NAIMOS officers, which claimed one life in Obuasi.
Speaking in a phone interview on the GTV Breakfast Show on Thursday, November 20, 2025, Ms. Mawuenyefia explained that the officers had been working within the Obuasi enclave and were returning home to freshen up before resuming operations when the accident occurred.
She noted that the Ministry is also providing alternative pathways that enable people to undertake mining activities in a safe, legal, sustainable, and responsible manner.
On measures to protect NAIMOS personnel from future attacks, Ms. Mawuenyefia said it is important for officers to “beef up their resources and ensure that they are adequately resourced for all operations.”
She further announced that a book of condolence will be opened later today at the NAIMOS headquarters for the public to express their sympathies to the bereaved family.
