Minority out with ten recommendations for energy crisis management

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has suggested some measures government should take to address challenges in the energy sector.

Key among the measures is to allow Independent Power Producers (IPPs), to take responsibility for their fuel supply requirements.

The Caucus said immediate steps must be taken to aggressively solve ECG’s current technical and commercial losses.

Ranking Member on the Energy Committee of Parliament, John Jinapor suggested these at a press briefing in Accra.

The statement mentioned the Pokuase and Kasoa bulk Supply Points, the Kumasi-Kintampo transmission line projects, efforts to transfer AMERI Power plant to Kumasi and the Tema to Accra Transmission line upgrade as some of the critical works underway to resolve challenges with power supply across the country.

The Energy Ministry said President Akufo-Addo’s vision for the power subsector is to ensure safe, dependable and affordable power to bring relief to Ghanaians.

The statement explained that government appreciates the patience of affected Ghanaians and craves their forbearance as the necessary works are undertaken to address the challenges.
