Misconduct by Public Officers would not be countenanced – Local Government Minister

The Minister of Local government and Rural development, Mr Daniel Kwaku Botwe says the government would not countenance any misconduct by Public Officers that would send wrong signals to the public.

He cautioned and entreated all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, MMDCEs to avoid being carried away by their “Honourable’ title and the perks of their Office, but rather serve the good people in their localities.

Minister of Local government and Rural development, Mr Daniel Kwaku Botwe Public OfficersAccording to Mr. Dan Kwaku Botwe, the suspension of the Takoradi MCE by President Akuffo Addo is in the right direction as Public Officers are there to serve the Public and not to throw their weight around.

Mr Dan Botwe was speaking to the media in Sunyani at the opening of a three-day Zonal Refresher Course on Leadership and Management for MMDCEs from the Bono, Ahafo, Ashanti and the Western North regions.

Austin Agyenim Boateng reports that the three-day Zonal Training and Refresher Course, which is the first in a series for all MMDCEs from the Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono and Western North regions was focused on deepening their understanding of the local government system and key policies and programmes of Government to enable them to perform effectively in their new roles. Delivering the welcome address, the Bono Regional Minister Justina Owusu Banahene said, if Ghana is to be self-reliant, there must be conscious efforts to scientifically design frameworks to maximise their local revenue generation efforts and eliminate the leakages that continue to draw them back.

 

The Minister of Local government and Rural development, Mr Daniel Kwaku Botwe said, MMDCEs should avoid needless confrontation with traditional authorities, MPs and Assembly Members and give others respect and show empathy in order to gain affection of the citizenry.

”You should not be armchair administrators”, he said.

He said ”the suspension of the MCE is in the right direction”.
