More than half of Ghanaians believe corruption has worsened – Afrobarometer Survey

The latest Afrobarometer Survey on corruption perception, conducted by the Centre for Democratic Development, Ghana (CDD-Ghana) says more than half of Ghanaians agree that corruption in the country has worsened during the year preceding the survey.

The Ghana Police Service was cited as the most corrupt institution in Ghana. According to the report launched in Accra yesterday, Parliamentarians and the Judiciary were also perceived as corrupt.

While 57% of people interviewed perceived the police as most corrupt, 40% pointed to judges and magistrates as second most corrupt, with Members of Parliament with 36%. Civil servants, as well as tax officials, were tied at 34%.

The report, however, named the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the Presidency and religious leaders as the most trusted institutions.

While GAF topped with 40%, the Presidency had 33% approval with religious leaders scoring 28%.

On the other hand, the report indicated that Parliament, opposition political parties, local government and tax officials were the least trusted with 15%, 12%, 12% and 10%.
