MTTD, DVLA receive support to promote road safety

The Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, DVLA in Accra have each received reflective vests to promote road safety.

The support comes from a charity, Street Sense Organisation, as part of its Corporate Social responsibility.

The 1000 reflective vests valued at 45,000 dollars or the cedi equivalent GHC 675,000, were donated to the Police MTTD to help the police to improve safety on our roads.

The National Coordinator of Street Sense Organisation, the Charity championing the cause of road safety, Mr. Sampson Oddoye, said the vests are to serve a dual purpose of protecting the Police while discharging their duties and also educating all road users on road safety. He said the colour of the vests were very visible and had luminous trappings around them, making them reflect especially at night.

The Director General of the Police MTTD thanked the organisation for its continuous support to the Police.

A similar donation was made at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, DVLA office. The Legal Officer for Street Sense said it was important to work closely with DVLA to drum home the chorus of road safety to reduce deaths on roads in accordance with the UN Resolution 74/299.

The Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA, Mr. Kwasi Agyemang Busia was grateful for the gesture. He called for the support of drivers and pedestrians to be disciplined on the roads to achieve the goal of reducing deaths.

The records of road accidents in the third quarter of the year had shown a reduction as compared with 2021.
