By Mercy Darko

As the nation gears up for the December polls, Vice Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated for all to eschew acts that will destabilise peace and unity in the country. He said that no lives or property should be destroyed during, before and after the elections. Dr Bawumia made these remarks when he joined the Muslim Caucus in Parliament to mark the 13th Annual Night of Power in the Holy Month of Ramadan at the forecourt of Parliament House.

He noted that as Muslims count days to end the fasting period, they should embrace peace, unity and tolerance.

He also called on Muslim faithful to give alms and contribute to the ‘Zadakat Trust Fund’ which was established in 2018 to help the needy in the Zongo communities.

The last ten days of Ramadan are deemed special as prayers during this period are intensified to seek the immense blessings of Allah, especially during the Night of Power.

Vice President Bawumia said as the country prepares for the December elections, all must seek the face of God for peaceful elections devoid of violence.

Vice President Bawumia also appealed to Muslims to contribute to the Zadakat Trust Fund to help the vulnerable in society, as giving alms is key in Islam.

He entreated managers of the fund to digitise the process to enhance transparency.

In a remark, the Speaker of Parliament, who was represented by the MP for Yilo Krobo, Magnus Kofi Amoatey, noted that as a nation, it is imperative for Ghanaians to tolerate each other as it is the bridge that connects all, irrespective of one’s background.

In a sermon on the theme, Peace, Unity and Tolerance: A Roadmap to a Prosperous Ghana, Sheikh Sa-id Mukhtar Abubakar said it is important to forgive and tolerate one another for peace to prevail.

Justice Amadu Tanko, who spoke on behalf of the Chief Justice, stressed the need for all to embrace peace and unity, pledging the commitment of the judiciary to uphold good governance.

He entreated all to renew their commitment to mutual understanding, where diversity and differences are embraced as sources of strength and opportunity.

Prayers were said for leadership and the nation as a whole.
