About 600 new Nation Builder’s Corps (NABCO), trainees are expected to be posted to the Upper West Region by the end of this month.

Speaking at the first anniversary celebration of NABCO, the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin-Salih said the region has the lowest number of trainees of 2,869 and some of the trainees have moved to other public sectors for permanent employment.

Dr Bin-Salih said for the Programme to succeed, all hands must be on deck.

The Nation Builder’s Corp programme was launched last year by government to address the problem of graduate unemployment in the country.
The programme also focuses on enhancing public service delivery in the area of Health, Education, Agriculture, technology, governance and to drive revenue mobilization.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin-Salih said the scheme is not only for jobs for graduates but to sharpen their skills for the job market and enable them to set up their own businesses to give them a life of dignity and respect in society.

He said the President will be launching the NABCO Talent Academy on the 17th November to fulfill the training component of the scheme and urged trainees to take advantage as certificates will be awarded to them.

The Upper West Regional Coordinator for NABCO,  Umar Nuhu speaking about the issues of delay in payment said the scheme had closed the two month gap delay to at least ten days.

He expressed the hope that the coming months, trainees should be paid before the month runs it full course. He said though the payment issues are blamed on management, trainees should also bear in mind that they also have a role to play.

Mr. Nuhu expressed worry about the labeling of NABCO trainees at the agencies they found themselves with names like NABCO Dennis or NABCO Jinsung saying it is segregating and demoralizing.

He urged the agencies to give all trainees cause to be happy and feel a sense of belonging at their various workplaces.
A Trainee, Ernest Taara in his testimonial speech appealed to government to employ all trainees after the three years on the programme.

He explained that NABCO will be meaningless if after the three years, trainees are asked to go home.
