Upper East Region: Chief blesses lawyer for giving water to 3 deprived Communities in Nabdam

A Chief of the Pelungu Traditional Area, Naab Sierig Soore Sobil, has commended a young committed philanthropist and member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region, Lawyer Lamtiig Apanga, for exhibiting some commitment in bringing development to the Nabdam area.

Naab Sobil said this when the Philanthropist cut sod for the drilling of three mechanised boreholes in the area. Communities benefiting from this water project are Pelungu, Zanlerigu, and Gane-Asonge. Naab Soore Sobil said the water project, when completed, would be a relief to the people of the Pelungu Market and the community at large.

“You can even see how excited the community members are today. I’ve been looking for this opportunity for a very long time. Pelungu has a big market but has no source of good drinking water, and I think this has come to relieve the people,” Naab Soore Sobil said.

The Philanthropist and Lawyer Lamtiig Apanga said it gives him joy that the chief and community members appreciate his kind gesture. He recounted how women in these areas walk longer distances to fetch water for cooking and washing. He said this act motivated him to source for funds in order to give water to his people.

“One of the people’s major concerns here is that, they don’t have a good source of portable water and whenever the dry season comes, they struggle to have water. So, I felt that it was something that we needed to do. Water is life and that’s important”, Lawyer Apanga recounted.

“We are giving three Communities three mechanised boreholes with a poly tank overhead and a tap and filters to ensure that the water is portable enough for drinking, cooking and for animal consumption,” he concluded.

Lawyer Apanga, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Ghana, believes that the water project, when completed, would help improve the sanitation situation in the area and fight against diseases, and well as reduce the challenges the people go through to access drinking water. He hopes to extend the benevolence to other Communities at Sekoti and Nangodi areas in the shortest possible time.
