NAFTI to establish satellite centres to train media persons

The National Film and Television Institute, NAFTI is set to establish Satellite Centres in parts of the country very soon for the training of persons in media, film and television production outside of Accra.

The initiative is to make the academic programmes and Courses of the Institute easily accessible to practicing journalists and others who want to pursue courses in media and related programs.

The Rector of NAFTI, Dr. Samuel Narh made this known in Kumasi.

He was addressing participants of a two-week training programme for mainly media practitioners practicing their profession in the Ashanti region.

The training, which was a collaboration between NAFTI and DW Akademie of Germany, was participated by 60 reporters, cameramen and radio presenters.

They received theoretical and practical training in Television News and Radio Presentation, Interviewing Techniques and Information Access as well as Journalism and Directorial Practice with lecturers of NAFTI serving as the Course Facilitators.

Dr. Narh noted that, in the last 25 years, media development and consumption have been increasing rapidly mainly as a result of the liberalization of the sector, coupled with the advancement of information technology which has brought in its wake, new media tools and mobile telephony.

The participants were unanimous in their assessment that the training programme was well planned and worth every bit of the time spent with some of them asking for Advanced courses to enable them to improve on their newly acquired knowledge.

Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s Sandrine Oduro Amponsah, Kwame Obeng Sarkodie and Nicholas Osei-Wusu received prizes for being the best in Television and Radio News Presentation, Interviewing Techniques and Information Access as well as Journalism and Directorial Practices respectively.
