National casualty figures this year from road accidents hit 2000

The Upper East Regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority Dennis Yeribu has disclosed that 44 persons died from road accidents during the elections from 7th to 10th December this year.

He indicated further that, the national casualty figures resulting from road accidents and its related issues also stand at about 2000 and if not checked, the figure is likely to go up by the close of this year.

This was made known in an interview with our Correspondent Emmanuel Akayeti, in Bolgatanga. Mr. Yeribu stated that, in the Upper East Region alone, 8 bicycles and 27 tricycles had accidents involving 198 persons leaving 54 dead and 168 injured.

Also, 334 vehicles were involved in accidents killing 66 with 125 persons injured from January to date.

He touched on steps being taken by NRSA in collaboration with other stakeholders to change the narrative
