The National Tripartite Committee has arrived at the 2021 National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW), pegging it at ¢12.53.

The amount represents a six percent increase over the 2020 figure of ¢11.82 pesewas.

In a statement, the Committee noted that implementation of the NDMW takes effect from Friday, June 4.

The NDMW for 2022 was also determined and that was pegged at ¢13.53, representing an eight percent increase over the 2021 figure.

This is also expected to take effect from the 1st of January next year. The Committee says in determining the new rates, it took into account the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on the national economy, cost of living, sustainability of businesses and desirability of attaining high level of employment.

The National Tripartite Committee recommended that the National Daily Minimum Wage should be tax-exempt. The Committee urged all establishments, institutions and organisations whose daily minimum wages are below the 2021 NDMW to adjust their wages accordingly to avoid sanctions.
