Nearly ¢8 billion needed to fix 81 critical roads across Ghana

Stretch of Accra-Tema Motorway needs to be re-constructed- Roads and Highways Minister

Kwesi Amoako-Atta, Minister of Roads and Highways.

Minister of Roads and Highway, Kwesi Amoako-Atta, has directed that road contractors will now bear a five-year defect liability as part of efforts to improve road networks in the country.

This has become necessary because the previous one-year defect liability has resulted in a lot of contractors doing shoddy works.

Speaking at a media briefing in Accra, Mr Amoako-Atta noted that the initial liability period has proven to be unsustainable since many roads begin to show signs of deterioration after about a year.

Meanwhile, eighty-one roads have been marked as critical roads to be constructed in all sixteen regions of the country.

The construction will cost government ¢7.827 billion.

Some of the Critical roads include Atebubu Kwame-Danso roads in the Bono East Region, GolokwatoWli roads in the Volta Region and AnwianKwanta Obuasi road in the Ashanti Region.
