The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) has called for a critical review of government expenditures in the face of a domestic revenue shortfall.

A Senior Research Fellow at the Institute, Charles Ackah made this known at the launch of last year’s State of the Economy and this year’s Mid-Year Review.
Speaking on the issue, an Economist, Professor John Gatsi says the Government needs to look at the reactions of the Research Reports and act accordingly.
He said the Nation Builders Corps is not employment by itself. It is just to ease pressure on the level of unemployment on government, therefore, a second look must be taken on its implementation.
On Planting for Food and Jobs, Professor Gatsi said it is a good policy but instead of concentrating on the core ingredients such as seed production, government is rather importing such seeds, therefore, creating jobs and wealth for those countries.
He also touched on rising tax exemptions. He said though it is a good economic tool, it seems what is being done is misdirected.
