Need for increased media freedom and protection for journalists stressed

The President of the Association of European Journalists, AEJ, Otmar Lahodynsky has called for increased media freedom and protection for journalists in their line of work.

Speaking at the International Conference of the Association of European Journalists in Paris, Mr Lahodynsky described as barbaric, the killing of those whose work entails giving hope to the voiceless and vulnerable in obscure parts of the world.

The Association of European Journalists, AEJ is an umbrella organisation of journalists in Europe that continue to champion the safety and well being of Journalists in Europe and other parts of the world.

The Association has over the years condemned the brutal and senseless killing of Journalists, exposed governments that restrict media freedom, and pushed for policies that protect journalists in their line of work.

This year’s conference seeks to press home once again, the need for international democratic forces to join hands to stop the acts of impunity perpetrated against Journalists.

The President of AEJ International, Otmar Lahodynsky condemned US President Donald Trump for his anti-media posture which he says has relegated the United States to the periphery on the World Media Freedom index and called on the international community to put pressure on him to respect media freedom.

The Assistant Director of Communications of UNESCO, Moez Chakchouk said the world body will continue to champion efforts to protect journalists and bring to book perpetrators of heinous atrocities against journalists.

Caruana Galizia, son of murdered Maltese female Journalist, Daphne Galizia called for more efforts to protect journalists in their line of work as he gave a chilling account of the murder of his mother.

The Conference hopes to come out with a blueprint that will further expose and punish anti-media individuals and groups whose aim is to dim the light of media freedoms.
