The Ghana Health Service together with the National Malaria Control Programme are to introduce a non-insecticide Malaria Programme aimed at reducing Malaria cases.
The intervention which will use bio-larvae is to complement other Malaria Control Measures. It will ensure that mosquitoes do not grow resistance to insecticide base methods.
Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana on the occasion of World Malaria Day, Research Fellow, Dr. Samuel Dadzie said mosquitoes have developed resistance in recent years and therefore there is the need for new preventive strategies to fight it.
A Clinical Epidemiologist at the University of Health and Allied Science, UHAS, Professor Fred Binka said a major setback to Malaria Research Programmes in Ghana is finance.
Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, he asked the government to see investment in malaria control initiatives as an economic venture.
Prof Binka said a malaria free country has healthy citizens that work to ensure rapid development. He asked Ghana to take a cue from Burkina Faso that is making significant strides in malaria control.
