New Juaben North Assembly palm tree planting project progressing steadily

The New Juaben North Municipal Assembly Palm tree planting project under Government’s Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD), is progressing steadily.

More than 60,000 out of the targeted one hundred thousand seedlings distributed to farmers at Asikasu, Suhyen and Jumapo are growing well and started bearing fruits.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Madam Comfort Asante dropped the hint in an interview with GBC Sunrise FM news in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.

According to her, another effort is being made to nurse more palm tree seedlings to farmers in the other adjoining communities in the municipality to help expand the project.

She said the assembly will soon establish palm fruit processing factory to process the fruits after harvesting to keep the value chain.

Madam Asante commended the farmers for attaching seriousness to the project, adding that the assembly will also grant any request from them in other to sustain the project to support the local economy.

Aside the PERD project, she said the assembly has also built clinics and CHPS compounds in almost all the communities in the municipality.

She was also happy that the regional hospital is being built in her municipality adding that it will uplift the image of the area upon completion.
