New TOR MD advised to help revive refinery

By Dominic Hlordzi.

Energy Strategist, Dr. Ussif Suleimana, says the new Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery TOR, Mr Edward Boateng must run the refinery with the best practice in business administration to help revive the facility.

He said TOR can only be profitable if it is managed as a business and not a bureaucratic state facility. Dr. Suleimana stated this in an interview with GBCNEWS in Accra.

For many years, the Tema Oil Refinery, TOR, Ghana’s only petroleum refinery has been dormant as a result of mismanagement, debts, political interference, obsolete equipment and lack of investment.

To help give the facility a new lease on life, Energy Strategist, Dr. Ussif Suleimana advocates that the facility be managed as a business without state meddling in its operations.

The need for private sector participation in the running of the refinery has again been emphasised.

The new MD, Mr Edward Boateng, has a daunting task of helping to procure crude for the refinery without which there will be no serious operations. Currently, TOR only supports importers of finished petroleum products with its facilities.
