Newmont Ahafo South Mines has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to agricultural development with a GH₵368,000 donation towards the 2024 Farmers’ Day celebration in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region.

The substantial contribution includes 1 Motor King (Large Bucket), 5 Motor Kings (Medium Bucket), 1 Royal motorbike, 30 bicycles, 10 boxes of cutlasses, 5 Nasco 42-inch televisions, 170 Wellington boots, 50 pieces of GTP Adepa fabric, and 480 branded Farmers’ Day T-shirts, all aimed at motivating hardworking farmers across the district.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Alex Kofi Annin, General Manager of Newmont Ahafo South Mines, said the annual support reflects Newmont’s broader mission of enhancing livelihoods in its host communities.

“Agriculture plays a very key role in Ghana’s local and national economy. Our ability to support farmers demonstrates Newmont’s purpose of improving lives in the communities where we operate,” he noted.

“This donation will not be the last. We will continue to support Farmers’ Day celebrations across the country because improving lives and sustaining communities is central to our long-term vision.”

He emphasized that the mining firm sees agriculture as a critical partner industry whose growth directly enhances community resilience and long-term development.

The District Chief Executive for Asutifi North, Hafiz Dauda Dabeil, commended Newmont for its consistency and dedication to the agricultural sector.

“Over the years, Newmont has committed itself to supporting agriculture in Asutifi North, the Ahafo Region and Ghana as a whole. Even though they are a mining company, they continue to stand with our farmers, helping them to grow, thrive and feed the nation,” he said.

This year’s Farmers’ Day is themed “Grow Ghana, Eat Ghana,” a message that aligns strongly with Newmont’s community investment priorities.

Joseph Danso, Director of Social Performance at Newmont, highlighted the company’s long history of supporting Farmers’ Day celebrations.

“Farmers’ Day has always been a significant moment for Newmont. For more than 20 years, we have supported district and regional events to honour the hard work of our farmers,” he explained.

“Our motivation is to demonstrate that even as we mine, farming remains critical. We share the land responsibly to achieve the best outcomes for all stakeholders, and we understand the importance of farming in ensuring food security.”

Newmont’s latest gesture strengthens its long-term relationship with farming communities and reinforces its role as a development partner committed to shared prosperity within its operational areas.
