Workers of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) have accused management of victimizing workers through transfers, especially, those opposing unjustifiable decisions by management. More than 20 workers have so far been transferred.
The workers yesterday informed the National Labour Commission on plans to strike.
They cancelled similar action few weeks ago following discussions with Management and the National Labour Commission. General Secretary of the Financial Business and Services Employees Union of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Benjamin Mingle has been speaking to Radio Ghana’s.
In November this year, unionized staff of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) issued a statement of an intended strike the continuous refusal by the Management of the NLA to meet with officers of the Financial, Business and Services Employees Union (FBSEU), to discuss and adopt a Constitution of a Standing Negotiating Committee (SNC) to be constituted under Section 101 of the Labour Act.
However, after several engagements with between workers, Management of NLA and the Labour Commission, the strike action was called off.
The Labour Commission ordered that management of NLA continue to engage with the staff to solve the problem.
After a series of meetings, the workers say management is unwilling to heed to their demands.
According to General Secretary of the Financial Businesses and Services Employees Union of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Benjamin Mingle, management of the NLA has rather resorted to mass transfers of workers.
He said they are ready to embark of the strike and series of demonstrations.
The strike if followed through will mean that persons who take part in games organized by the NLA will not be paid should they win.
