The discussion on whether media content should be regulated has resurfaced following the confession by the suspects in the murder of the ten-year-old boy in Kasoa.

The two suspects say they were convinced to go into money rituals after they saw an advert on money rituals on television.

Reacting to this, Chairman of the National Media Commission, NMC Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo said the Commission is not adequately equipped to regulate media content, stressing that Article 173 of the Constitution prevents the Commission from interfering in the operations of media institutions.

He said the NMC can only do so with a broadcasting law that would include regulations on media content, adding that the inability of the NMC to check media content does not make the Commission redundant.

Mr. Ayeboafo cleared the air on some statements he made concerning the manner in which the police investigated the incident which according to him has been misconstructed.
