North East Regional Minister lauds residents for embracing initiative to end open defecation

The North East Regional Minister, Yidana Zakaria, says the region attaining 66 percent coverage, in ending open defecation and improvement in basic sanitation, shows how the people are embracing the Community-Led Total Sanitation, CLTS.

According to him, the new region deserves commendation, for achieving that feat, because, behavioral change is a daunting task.

Mr. Zakaria expressed the region’s support for the Overlord of Mamprugu, for giving residents of Nalerigu three months’ notice to construct household toilets.

Mr. Zakaria said this at the launch of the first North East Regional Open Defecation Free League Table at Nalerigu.

The launch of the first North East Regional Open Defecation Free League table is the region’s effort to ensure it deals with open defecation and basic sanitation challenges.

The unveiling of the league table saw Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri taking the first place, followed by West Mamprusi, Yunyoo-Nasuan, East Mamprusi, Chereponi with Mamprugu-Moagduri districts.

The North East Regional Minister, Yidana Zakaria commended development partners for their support.

Mr. Yidana Zakaria, tasked all MDAs to start drafting their bye laws towards effective implementation by the middle of next year.
