Northern region to host 2018 National Farmers Day

The Northern region will hold this year’s 34th National Farmers Day celebrations.

As part of effort to ensure a successful event, the Regional Coordinating Council has identified and met with major stakeholders to strategize and solicit support towards the event.

To this end, a local organizing committee has also been set up to work closely with the national organizing committee.

At a press briefing in Tamale, the Chief Director of the RCC, Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku said the event will focus more on innovations, potentials and opportunities that can attract people particularly the youth to agricultural in the region.

The National Farmers Day is commemorated on the first Friday of December to honor our gallant farmers and fishers.

The event acknowledges the vital position farmers and fishers occupy in the country’s socio-economic development.

The theme for this year’s event is “Agriculture: ‘Moving Ghana Beyond Aid’. Alhaji Issahaku said the format for the national farmer’s day celebrations has been redesigned for this year explaining that the regional farmer’s day will be celebrated at the venue where the national farmer’s day will be celebrated.

He said the ten regions will also celebrate their regional days in Tamale as part of the national farmer’s day.

He also noted that the regional celebration days which will have two regions exhibiting its potentials each day, will kick start on November 29th with Northern and Western regions setting the pace.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is expected to officially open the Agricultural Fair/Exhibition and the Regional Focus Days on November 30th, 2018.

The Chief Director is urging other meaningful Ghanaian and stakeholders to support this worthy course to help achieve what it has termed ‘the records celebration of the farmer’s day in Ghana’.

The week long event is scheduled to take place at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
