‘’Not over deployment, but protection of lives and property’’- Police on Aggrieved Public Sector Demo

By Nathaniel Nartey.

The Ghana Police Service has expressed surprise at the turnout by the Coalition of Aggrieved Public Sector Workers for its demonstration on Wednesday, August 18, 2021.

The Director of Public Affairs for the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, DSP Juliana Obeng told Nathaniel Nartey that the police made a determination on the deployment based on discussions with the group.

She said regardless, the police were professional in their conduct which resulted in a peaceful exercise.

“It was not a case of over deployment, but protection for life and property. It was a protection for all, and we were simply doing our job. We met several times before the event, and that is what the convenors made us understand in terms of the numbers. The most important thing is that we have been able to pull this off, and it has been a peaceful and successful demonstration,’’ DSP Juliana Obeng pointed out.

She posited that they would continue to police to the best of their abilities in service to the public.
