NPA confiscates 43 tankers and canoe used in smuggling petroleum products

Forty-three bulk road vehicles and canoe have been impounded and detained for smuggling and dumping of petroleum products.
The National Petroluem Authority (NPA), which undertook the operation in collaboration with the security agencies this year, futher confiscated all products on board the vehicles and canoe.
Addressing a Petroleum Downstream Industry Meeting in Accra, Chief Executive Officer of NPA, Alhassan Tampuli said the cases are currently being reviewed by a Committee that was constituted in June this year to develop guidelines to curb illegal fuel activities and also propose measures for the disposal of all confiscated vehicles, canoe and on-board products.
The meeting provided the platform for stakeholders to dialogue and disseminate information on industry activities, trends and opportunities that would ensure the continuous growth and development of the petroleum down-stream sector.
The Authority,Mr Tampuli said would ensure that relevant taxes and levies are realized and paid to government.
