NPP communicator Ernest Adade has questioned the prosecutorial priorities of Attorney General Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine over the handling of cases involving alleged financial losses to the state.
Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Mr Adade compared the approximately US$2 million allegedly involved in the case of former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedinam Tamakloe Ationu with what he claims are more than US$1 billion in potential losses from cases discontinued through nolle prosequi.
“You are chasing $2 million, and we’re losing over $1 billion in nolle prosequi,” he said.
Mr Adade stressed that his criticism did not mean the government should discontinue the case against Sedinam Tamakloe Ationu.
He said any money she was found to have improperly obtained or spent should be recovered and that she should continue to face trial to answer the allegations against her.
However, he argued that the attention being given to the alleged US$2 million should be considered alongside the wider financial implications of cases discontinued through nolle prosequi.
According to him, the government should pursue accountability on both fronts by continuing the case against Sedinam Tamakloe Ationu while also addressing concerns over cases discontinued through nolle prosequi and the potential financial losses arising from them.
What is nolle prosequi?
Nolle prosequi is a decision by the prosecution to discontinue criminal proceedings, subject to the applicable legal provisions.
Mr Adade’s comments have raised questions about prosecutorial priorities, the recovery of public funds and the broader use of nolle prosequi within Ghana’s criminal justice system.
