Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has called for full accountability and transparency regarding the missing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers, worth over $700 million.
In a post on X, he questioned whether the 706 containers evacuated by National Security might be part of the 1,340 missing containers that have sparked public outcry.
“Where are the missing ECG containers worth over $700 million? Could these 706 containers evacuated by National Security be part of the missing 1,340 containers? Have they accounted for the equipment and logistics contained in these containers?” he wrote.
Rev. Fordjour criticized the Energy Minister, John Jinapor, for failing to disclose the evacuation during previous briefings, calling it a “serious lapse in communication.”
The evacuation directive came through a confidential letter dated March 27, 2025, signed by National Security Coordinator Osman Abdul-Razak. The letter instructed the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to transfer the containers to a warehouse in Abelemkpe, Accra, and suspend all port charges pending investigations.
Copies were sent to the Transport Minister and Ghana Revenue Authority Commissioner-General, signaling high-level government oversight.
Rev. Fordjour demanded transparency and accountability from authorities. “We need coherent answers. We need all the containers accounted for!” he urged, emphasizing that resolving this issue is critical for public trust in Ghana’s energy infrastructure management.
