Odawna market site yet to be redeveloped after blaze

On November 18, last year, a fire outbreak at the Pedestrian Shopping Mall at the Kwame Nkrumah interchange razed down the market.

The accident destroyed goods and infrastructure running into millions of cedis.

A visit by GBC NEWS to the market to ascertain its state after almost three months revealed that although the debris from the outbreak has been cleared and leveling completed, the site is yet to be redeveloped.

Traders who are still yet to come to terms with their loss said they have been forced to fight for space with commuters on the already congested pavement and appealed to government to take interest in their case.

They asked government to ensure monies promised them as compensation is equitably distributed. The traders also called for high security once the market is reconstructed to prevent recurrence of the rampant fire outbreaks.

Established in 2007 the Odawna Pedestrian shopping mall provides the shopping needs of commuters to and from the central business district.
