The Abeka District court has adjourned the case of the Republic versus Stephen Nana Kankam to June 22.

The Magistrate, Achaama Ofosu, told the court at its last sitting that the accused person had tested for COVID-19 and is awaiting results.

She said that per the instructions of the Chief Justice due to the COVID-19 pandemic, when such cases come up, the accused persons not be brought to court. Stephen Kankam, a landlord, is standing trial for allegedly murdering his tenant, Benjamin Okyere for refusing to vacate his rented room.

Even though the accused person was spotted by GBC’s Yvonne Asare Offei in the police car, he did not enter the court room.

This made the family and sympathisers of the deceased furious and started chanting. They wore red and black and held placards and posters with inscriptions, Justice, we need, God is our helper.

Stephen Kankam, the land lord has been remanded in prison custody.
