The Offinso College of Education in the Ashanti Region has named a campus street after Nana Dr Appiagyei Dankawoso I, a prominent Ghanaian industrialist, traditional leader and alumnus of the institution, in recognition of his contribution to the College’s growth.
The street was unveiled and dedicated by the College’s Governing Council, Management, staff, students and alumni as part of activities celebrating his long-standing support for the Methodist Church Ghana-run institution.
Principal of the College, Very Rev. Dr Joseph Nkyi Asamoah said the honour was intended to celebrate Nana Dankawoso’s enduring legacy of service, leadership, and commitment to the advancement of the institution. Nana Dankawoso, who served as President of the Students’ Representative Council in 1996, has over the years committed his personal resources to support the College’s development.
For Nana Dr Appiagyei Dankawoso , the recognition was also a homecoming. Long before he became a familiar name in Ghana’s corporate and traditional leadership circles, he trained at the institution, then known as Offinso Training College, where he served as SRC President in 1996.
His relationship with the school has remained strong. In 2007, during the College’s 50th anniversary celebrations, he was similarly honoured for his “immense contribution to the development of the College.”
After leaving Offinso, Nana Dr Appiagyei Dankawoso taught with the Ghana Education Service in the Afigya Sekyere District in the late 1990s before entering the insurance industry, where he built a career spanning more than two decades and became a Chartered Insurer.
He later rose to lead several major business institutions. From 2016 to 2020, he served two terms as President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the country’s largest business chamber. He has also served as president of the Pan-African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which represents 54 countries and as President-General of the West Africa Nobles Forum.
In his traditional role as Omanhene Kyeame of Asante Juaben, he has served on several boards, including Juaben Community Bank, Nkosuo Microfinance Company, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and Ghana EximBank, while also pursuing private business interests.
College authorities said the gesture was designed to inspire current students by turning the campus itself into a reminder of what graduates can achieve when they distinguish themselves in service, leadership, and national life. The dedication took place ahead of the College’s main congregation ceremony, where the 2026 graduating class was formally presented with their qualifications.
