MP calls for temporary opening of Ghana’s borders

The Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa has called for a temporary opening of the country’s borders to enable stranded Ghanaians in other nations to return home.

He said many citizens have been caught in the unforeseen web of the COVID 19 pandemic, therefore a special dispensation for them will help reunite them with their families. He made the appeal on GBC’s current affairs programme, ‘Behind The News’.

He said Ghana is already granting other countries that dispensation to fly their national out, so it will not be out of place to equally receive Ghanaians from outside.

Chairman of the Committee, Frank Annor -Dompreh, however, said government is not deliberately preventing Ghanaians from coming home.

He said the borders were closed to contain the COVID 19, and so the opening of the borders must be based on expert advice.
