The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Wednesday, December 3, detained private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, after a reported confrontation with police officers at the entrance of the OSP premises.

‎Lawyer Kpebu, who had gone to meet investigators over corruption allegations he made against the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, was taken into custody before any interrogation could be conducted. Sources say investigators could not proceed with questioning while he remained in police custody.

‎He was later granted bail with the condition of providing a landed property as security. However, when his legal team returned to complete the process, he was said to be missing and could not be found at the facility.

‎The development comes amid growing tension between Mr Kpebu and the OSP. The lawyer has openly criticised the Special Prosecutor’s handling of corruption cases, accusing the office of procedural breaches and assigning key investigations to junior officers who report directly to Mr. Agyebeng.

‎Last week, Mr Kpebu told journalists that he would only cooperate with the OSP if an independent committee was set up to question him, insisting the current arrangement was unfair and compromised.

‎He has also previously questioned the OSP’s approach to the investigation involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, claiming that key procedures were mishandled.

‎The OSP is yet to officially comment on the detention, though sources suggest he may be released later in the evening.
