The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has started investigations into an alleged diversion of 50 containers of palm oil valued at GH₵25.8 million.
The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, is leading the probe into what officials describe as a suspected corruption scheme involving the unlawful sale of goods meant for transit.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the OSP said the shipment was originally declared as goods in transit to Burkina Faso. However, investigations suggest that the containers were diverted into the Ghanaian market without payment of the required duties and taxes.
Preliminary findings indicate that some Customs officers, National Security operatives, and clearing agents may have been involved in the alleged scheme.
The OSP estimates that the state may have lost about GH₵10.5 million in tax revenue as a result of the diversion.
According to the statement, the investigation follows an intelligence-led operation carried out in November 2025, which uncovered irregularities in the handling and clearance of the shipment.
The anti-corruption body assured the public that it remains committed to protecting public funds and ensuring accountability in the management of imports and transit goods.
Meanwhile, in a related development, 18 articulated trucks declared for transit to Niger were intercepted at the Akanu Border over suspicions of irregularities.
The trucks were intercepted by the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
Post-inspection checks revealed differences in declared unit values, tariff classifications, and weights. Authorities say the estimated revenue exposure increased from GH¢2.6 million to more than GH¢85 million.
The trucks were also allegedly moving without the required customs human escort, which is a serious breach of transit procedures.
