Director of Planning and Programmes at the National Road Safety Authority, David Adonteng, says 8,016 road-related crashes were recorded in the country between January and July.

More than 1,000 persons lost their lives.

Mr. Adonteng who was speaking in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana said a challenge in addressing road carnages remains the failure of people to act responsibly on the road and asked road users to be disciplined.

“We have also recorded 8,166 injured persons when it comes to road safety management or control.”

Mr. Adonteng said issues of road safety have become crucial, especially as the country approaches general election and Christmas.

He challenged the police to strictly enforce laws on road safety. He stated that road safety is a shared responsibility, urging politicians to use campaign platforms to sensitize the populace.
