First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, on Wednesday September 17, 2025, led a delegation of Parliament to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to commiserate with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei, who is the Chief mourner in the ongoing burial rite for the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom.
Day 3 of the ‘Dote Yie’, like the days early on, saw a large crowd of mourners, sympathizers and other members of the society throng the Manhyia Palace, seat of Asanteman, to pay their last respect to the late Nana Konadu Yiadom III whose remains lie in state for public viewing as part of the four-day traditional burial rite.
Among the Parliamentary delegation were some Majority and Minority members including the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga and the MP for Asante Akyem Central Constituency, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi.
They paid homage to Otumfuo Osei Tutu who sat in state to receive well wishers.
The Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie also led a delegation of the Judicial Service to show solidarity with the Chief sna people of Asanteman.
The Acting Chief Justice was supported by some members of the Bench from the lower to Supreme Court and and the Director of Legal Education and the Ghana Law School, Prof. Raymond Atuguba.
Correspondent Nicholas Osei-Wusu and report that, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini, Senator Thulisile Dladla, was among a considerable size of foreign dignitaries that included Ambassadors and High Commissioners of European and African countries who paid homage to Otumfuo Osei Tutu when he sat in state.
The penultimate day was set aside specifically for the judiciary, traditional leaders at all levels, the diplomatic community and MMDCEs.
The traditional leaders also showing up to mourn with Asanteman were the President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahohuo Yaw Gyebi, who is also the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso, paramount chiefs from Nungua and OSU in the Greater Accra region, Sefwi Wiawso and Enchi in the Western North region, President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of Abease, Daaswbee Kwebu Awusi, Nana Kobina Nketiah of Esikado Ketan in the Western region.
The others were from Kintampo, Anglo, Nkoranze and Dagbon.
The NPP’s delegation involved a former Chief of Staff, Mrs. Akosua Frema Osei Opare, the General Secretary and National Organizer and the Ashanti Regional Chairman while the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, led MMDCEs to also pay homage to Otumfuo Osei Tutu.
Some members of the Council of State led by Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, were also there to sympathize with the people.
Similarly, there were well wishers from various ethnic groups from the Ashanti region.
As has been the feature since Monday, the burial rites have been characterized by performances by various traditional groups such as Kete, Fontomfrom while the paramount chiefs from other parts of the country were accompanied with their respective groups.
Parliament and the National House of Chiefs donated 50 thousand Ghana Cedis each while the Judicial Service supported the event with an amount of 20 thousand Ghana Cedis.
The ‘Dote Yie’ will be climaxed Tomorrow, Thursday, September 18, 2025, with the burial rite by midday after which the remains will be sent for interment at the Breman Royal Mausoleum at midnight, in line with Asante tradition, custom and culture.
President John Mahama is expected to also show up to mourn with the Asantehene, the Chief Mourner.
Nana Konadu Yiadom, who reigned for eight years begining in February 2017, was the 14th Asantehemaa and succeeded her mother, the late Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem.
