Parliament to discuss the filth situation in Accra on Thursday

Members of Parliament will on Thursday, engage the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, to explain what steps are being taken to clean Accra of filth.

MP for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Andrew Dari Chiwitey, will set the tone for the discussion on urgent steps being taken to clear Accra of filth.

Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, announced the proposal, which was unanimously agreed on in the Business Statement for the week ending March 6, 2020, on the floor of Parliament.

The discussion is expected to generate a lot of interest as the issue of sanitation has become a matter of public and national interest.

President Akufo Addo delivering the 2020 State of the Nation Address, indicated there is an improvement in the nation’s sanitation.

The latest data from the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources shows that Open Defecation-Free, ODF communities in Ghana as a whole, have increased from four hundred and ten in 2016 to more than five thousand communities.
