Power Distribution Services (PDS) has suspended its power rationing exercise which was announced on Friday (April 5).

The PDS yesterday released separate schedules for load-shedding across the country, citing a shortfall in power supply and after several calls by customers for the schedule.

Explaining the reason for the immediate u-turn on news and current affairs programme ‘Behind the News,’ Director in Charge of Communications with the PDS, William Boateng said the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) asked that the load shedding be suspended because it has enough power for distribution.

The Communications Manager of Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission, Bawa Munkaila who expressed misgivings about the deadline, anticipated that the fuel which will be distributed might not be able to sustain the country till Monday (April 8).

Head of Communication at Ghana Gas, Ernest Owusu Bempah.

Head of Communication at Ghana Gas, Ernest Owusu Bempah confirmed that the first phase of the gas pipeline from Atuabo to the West African Gas pipeline has been completed.

He added that testing and commissioning of the project will start today.

Mr. Owusu Bempah said with the timeline given by engineers and the work being done, there is no need for the load shedding time table.

He assured Ghanaians that power will be restored on the 12th as scheduled.
