The National Best Farmer, 2021, Alhaji Mohammed Mashud has expressed satisfaction in the Planting For Food and jobs program by President Akufo-Addo.
He made the point on the GTV Breakfast Show, December 7, 2021.
Planting for Food and Jobs is a Flagship Agricultural Campaign of the Government, with five (5) implementation modules. Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) is a friendly package to encourage Ghanaians to take farming more seriously than in the recent past. It aims to make farming once more a respectable and profitable venture and create jobs.
According to Alhaji Mohammed Mashud, when GH¢1 is subsidized with regard to your input as a farmer, it is a very good thing.
Also all farmers enjoy75% of subsidies in the first year.
Explaining that assuming a fertilizer costs GH¢100, now farmers pay only GH¢ 25 and later pay GH¢25 after it harvest
Now the government did not decide on the price of the product for the farmers. It is flexible. He added that he is a farmer and benefitting from it, thus his reason for commending the government on the initiative.
Alhaji Mohammed Mashud pleaded with the government to do more for the farmers especially with mechanization, that is use of modern equipment should be made accessible and readily available.
