Pokuase Interchange to open on Friday, July 9

Ahead of the official opening of the Pokuase Interchange on Friday, July 9, 2021, a team from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highway Authority and the National Road Safety Commission were at the site to inspect the finishing touches to the project ahead of the opening.

Current works ongoing include landscaping, cleaning and putting up signage.

The resident engineer at the Pokuase Interchange site, Mr Kwabena Bimpong explained some of the road movements on the new interchange.

He cautioned against the indiscriminate siting of billboards on the highway and appealed to pedestrians to keep to their designated walkways.

The construction of the $70 million four tier Pokuase Interchange and its associated works, is to allow for free-flow of traffic at the Pokuase junction. It will prevent streams of traffic conflicting with one another from the Awoshie-Pokuase and Accra Kumasi roads.

Meanwhile an accident occurred when a car heading from Pokuase to Kwabenya collided with another vehicle from the opposite direction.

Eyewitnesses said the car from Pokuase was on the wrong side of the road as the driver did not realize that the diversion had been closed and the road, opened to regular traffic flow.

An engineer from the National road safety commission, Mr. David Safo Adonteng urged drivers to take note that the road has been opened to regular traffic flow and read the road signs and markings to avoid such situations.
