The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 22-year-old man, Evans Puplampu, in Ashaiman for creating a viral video in which he posed as a bandit, causing fear and panic among members of the public.

The video, which showed the suspect with his face covered and carried the caption “We are starting from Ghana churches,” quickly spread on TikTok and sparked widespread concern.

Through sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance, police were able to identify and arrest Puplampu on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

During questioning, he admitted to being the person in the video, explaining that he had copied a trending social media pose for fun and had no intention of causing harm or panic.

A Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone used to create and share the video has been retrieved and kept as evidence.

The suspect remains in police custody, assisting with investigations, and is expected to be arraigned before court.
