The Central Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a violent attack and alleged looting at New Winneba in the Gomoa East Municipality.
The suspects are 52-year-old Kweku Kakraba; Arko Thomas, 19; Samuel Tulasi, 19; Samuel Gyasi, 22; Emmanuel Okyere, 22; and Seth Osei, 22.




According to the Police, about 300 people armed with guns, stones, cutlasses and sticks stormed New Winneba Township, attacking residents and damaging properties.
The incident occurred at about 10:40 a.m. on September 1, when the group, reportedly from Gomoa Oguakrom, Gomoa Yenkuadze and Gomoa Pomadze, invaded shops and residences in the area.
The Police said about 15 people, including one police officer, sustained injuries during the attack and were sent to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for treatment.
Three people were also confirmed dead by the medical officer on duty.

As part of investigations, the Police retrieved a locally manufactured single-barrel gun and an empty AAA cartridge from the scene.
Security has since been reinforced in the area, with personnel from the Winneba, Agona Swedru and Mankessim Divisions, together with the Inspector-General of Police’s special team, deployed to restore and maintain security.
Two armoured vehicles from the Police National Headquarters have also been deployed as investigations continue.
