Ghana’s commitment to strengthening regional security cooperation has been underscored following the arrest of a Nigerian fugitive linked to a high-profile double murder case in Ogun State, Nigeria.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command on Sunday, November 23, 2025, confirmed the capture of Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, a 26-year-old suspect accused of abducting and killing a female Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and her daughter in Abeokuta. The incident sparked outrage in Nigeria after a viral video alleged the suspect had gone into hiding after the crime.

Fejemirokum was tracked down and arrested during an intelligence-led operation at Akyem Wenchi near Akwatia, where he had been secretly lodging with a friend. His arrest highlights the increasing role of intelligence-sharing and collaboration between Ghanaian and Nigerian authorities in tackling transnational crime.

Regional Commander DCOP George Ohene-Boadi, speaking at a news briefing, emphasised Ghana’s readiness to support neighbouring states when criminal cases cross borders.

He revealed that Ghanaian police have been in constant communication with Nigerian security agencies to fast-track the extradition process.

“We are working closely with our counterparts in Nigeria to ensure the suspect is handed over for prosecution,” DCOP Ohene-Boadi said.

He added that the arrest demonstrates the effectiveness of early-warning systems and coordinated surveillance across border communities.

Police officials also used the opportunity to call for greater public participation in crime prevention efforts. With many fugitive cases involving movement across informal routes, authorities say community intelligence remains vital.

“We urge the public to promptly report suspicious individuals or activities. Your vigilance is crucial to maintaining safety in our communities,” the Commander noted.

Security experts say the arrest is expected to deepen cooperation between the two countries as both work to curb cross-border fugitives, organised crime networks, and emerging security threats.

Fejemirokum remains in custody as Ghana prepares to hand him over to Nigerian authorities in the coming days.
