The Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service says the Homicide Unit is investigating the death of 16-year-old junior footballer, Ransford Owusu, who played for Siano Soccer Academy in Accra.
According to the Police, Ransford died on 28th February 2025. His mother, Ama Asantewaa, reported to the Amasaman Police that before his death, her son told her that he had been sexually abused by his coach, identified as Anyass Ibrahim.
The case was later taken over by the Homicide Unit at the CID Headquarters. Suspect Ibrahim was arrested on 4th November 2025 to assist police investigations. He has since been granted bail and is reporting to the CID Headquarters.
The Police say the mother of the deceased submitted some medical documents from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Kumasi. The documents suggest that the boy was treated for liver- and kidney-related problems before his death.
However, both hospitals have not officially released the deceased’s full medical reports to the Police. As a result, a court order has been secured to compel the hospitals to release the reports for confirmation.
Meanwhile, the Police say they are also extending investigations because a viral video has emerged showing suspect Ibrahim in a compromising situation with a minor.
The Ghana Police Service is urging anyone with credible information to assist the investigation by contacting the Homicide Unit at the CID Headquarters or the nearest police station.
