The Ghana Police Service has commenced an investigation into the deaths of two women whose bodies were discovered in a hotel room in Tamale, with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) deploying a special team to support the operation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 4, the Northern Regional Police Command said the bodies were found in a room at Cab Hospitality Hotel in the Gbewa Residential Area on Monday, August 3, 2026.
According to the police, officers responded to a report from the hotel management and discovered the bodies of the two women, who are believed to be citizens of Benin.
The bodies have since been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Police said the investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, confirm the identities of the deceased and work with the appropriate authorities to trace and notify their families.
To reinforce the investigation, the IGP has directed a special team made up of investigators, intelligence officers and crime scene experts from the National Police Headquarters to assist personnel from the Northern Regional Police Command.
The police have appealed to the public to provide any information that could aid the investigation by contacting the emergency lines 191 or 18555 or reporting to the nearest police station.
