Portia Gabor is 2021 Journalist of the Year

Portia Gabor of Media General (TV3) has been adjudged the 2021 Journalist of the Year at the 26th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards ceremony held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.

Portia Gabor’s feature titled ‘Beggars Paradise’ was adjudged the Best News Production for TV.

She beat Kester Aburam Korankye of the Daily Graphic and Francisca Enchill, a freelancer to win the most converted award of the Inky Fraternity.

The three of them picked up two awards each.

She also won the Health Journalist of the Year with her feature ‘Health for Wealth’.

Speaking at the ceremony after being named ‘Journalist of the Year’, she paid glowing tribute to some past female winners who have broken the glass ceiling and hence paving the way for other women to follow suit.

“You didn’t only set the pace for us but you broke the glass ceiling,” she stressed.

BACKGROUND

Portia Gabor is a broadcast journalist, producer, news anchor, and editor of features and documentaries at TV3 Network Limited.

She has travelled extensively to communities across the country to highlight issues affecting Ghanaians.

She has interviewed many personalities from the ordinary Ghanaian to the Queen of Denmark.

AWARDS

Some of her awards include Best News reporter at the Ghana Journalist awards, Komla Dumor most promising young journalist.

In 2011 she was nominated for CNN Multichoice Africa Journalist awards. Her work, “Drug peddling” in rural Africa was Highly Commended at the awards.

In 2018 Portia participated in the International Visitor Leadership Programme by the US Department of State.
