President Akufo-Addo, Chiefs of Akyem Abuakwa hold discussions on galamsey

President Akufo-Addo has held discussions with a delegation of Chiefs from the Akyem Abuakwa State, at the Jubilee House.

The President assured the chiefs of his renewed commitment in fighting illegal mining popularly called Galamsey.

He said everything will be done within his powers to bring Galamsey to a conclusion.

The Chiefs, led by the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Payin, raised issues of national interest including the dualisation of the Nsawam to Nkawkaw road, galamsey and return of stool lands to traditional authorities.

Spokesperson for the Okyehene, Gyasehene Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto, said dualising the Nsawam to Nkawkaw road will help to reduce the carnage on that stretch.

He appealed to the government to return stool lands that are not being used for their intended purposes.

The Gyasehene touched on illegal mining and asked government to as a matter of agency end galamsey activities.

President Akufo-Addo assured the chiefs that all issues raised will be addressed.  On the issue of galamsey, the President said he would do all within his powers to see to the end of the menace.

The President, who is a Royal of the Abuakwa State, said he will not do anything that will bring the name of the traditional area into disrepute.
