President Akufo-Addo consoles Queen of England

President Akufo-Addo, has sent his condolences to Queen Elizabeth and the British Royal Family, following the death of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, which occurred on Friday.

He described the Duke of Edinburgh as Queen Elizabeth’s “devoted companion for the past seventy-three years”.

President Akufo-Addo who recounted the royals’ visits to Ghana in 1961 and 1999, said Ghanaians have excellent memories of Prince Philip’s dynamic and engaging personality, adding that his life had a positive impact on Ghana.

He noted that more than seven hundred and fifty thousand young Ghanaians have benefited from the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, the great initiative, established by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1956, to unearth talents amongst young people the world over.

President Akufo-Addo said he was honored, to cut the sod for construction of its own administrative office building for the Award Scheme, known in Ghana as the Head of State Award Scheme, making Ghana one of the few countries in the world, and the second in Africa, to have such an office.

The President stressed that Britons have lost a formidable public servant in Prince Philip.
