President Akufo-Addo urges farmers to take advantage of free trade agreement

President Akufo-Addo has assured farmers and fishers that his government will address issues of credit for them. Farmers have been complaining about high interest rates which come with accessing credit.

According to farmers, the current 27 percent interest rate on loans does not make farming  competitive.

Addressing National farmers and fishermen award winners at the Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo asked farmers and fishers to take advantage of the opportunities that the Africa Continental Free Trade area presents.

The meeting between the National Farmers and Fishermen Awards winners Association and President Akufo-Addo was to address challenges facing farmers and fishers in the country.

Key amongst them were lack of access to credit, access to ready market and storage facilities.

President of the Association, Davis Karboe who led the delegation to the Jubilee House thanked government for improving access to fertilizer which has led to bumper harvest of Maize.

He believes more successes can be chalked up if issues facing farmers are addressed. He was worried that activities of mining and estate developers are taking over farming lands.

President Akufo-Addo said the issues raised by the farmers will be addressed.
