President John Dramani Mahama has returned to Ghana to a rousing and emotional welcome, following his impactful appearance at the United Nations General Assembly, where he successfully championed a historic resolution recognising the Transatlantic Slave Trade as one of the gravest crimes against humanity.

The President was met by the Vice President, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, a jubilant crowd of government officials, traditional leaders, civil society groups, and enthusiastic citizens, all gathered to celebrate what many are calling a defining moment in Ghana’s diplomatic history.

Speaking briefly upon arrival, President Mahama expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and reaffirmed Ghana’s longstanding commitment to justice, historical truth, and Pan-African solidarity.

At the United Nations, President Mahama’s address drew widespread attention as he passionately articulated the moral and historical imperative behind the resolution. His advocacy resonated with member states, culminating in broad support for the measure.

Analysts say the successful passage of the resolution strengthens Ghana’s position as a leading voice on issues of historical accountability and African heritage on the global stage. It also aligns with the country’s ongoing initiatives to reconnect with the African diaspora and promote remembrance through programs such as the “Year of Return” and “Beyond the Return.”

As celebrations continue across parts of the country, many Ghanaians see this achievement as a moment of national pride and a testament to the power of principled leadership in international affairs.
