Prof. Benneh: Court sets June 9 to begin committal proceedings against alleged killer

Professor Benneh, an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana, School of Law, was murdered in his home on Friday, 11th September 2020.

State Prosecutors will on June 9, commence the committal proceedings at the Kaneshie District Court against one Ebenezer Kwayisi, also known as Junior, alleged to have murdered the University of Ghana Law Lecturer, Prof. Emmanuel Yaw Benneh.

The State per the committal proceedings will seek to convince the Magistrate Ama Adomako Kwakye, to commit the accused person to stand trial at the High Court for murder.

The Magistrate ordered the State to serve the accused person with the Bill of Indictment ten days before the Court’s next sitting. The Court also instructed the accused person to read through all documents in the Bill of Indictment before the said date.

This was after the Prosecutors told the Court the Bill of Indictment was ready, but the State was yet to file and serve same on the accused person.

The Court adjourned the case to the 9th of next month for committals to begin.

The third accused person, Kwaiyisi, is the only person on provisional charge of murder, after the second accused person, Opambour Agya Badu Nkansah was discharged. The first accused person, James Nana Womba died in custody late last year and has since been buried.
